| NEWS & NOTES | | Peach Festival Report | | | St. Andrew's Church's annual Peach Festival was held August 20/21, 2010. Congratulations to Peach Festival Raffle winners Ron Austin, Betty Pearson, Thomas Miller, Helen Leibold, Marj Fitz, and Shirley Koch. Thanks to all who contributed to our 2010 Peach Festival, especially those who worked so hard on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday on set-up, serving, and clean-up. Financial results are almost complete; net proceeds from the event were about $2800. | | Some Sponsorship Dates Remain Open | | | The worship bulletin sponsor sign-up sheet posted on the narthex bulletin board still shows one open date: November 7, 2010; the cost per Sunday or special service remains $5. There is also an open date for weekly altar flower sponsors. Please contact the church office at (610) 375-8687 if you are interested in this date: October 17, 2010. The cost is $25. | | Coffee Fellowship Time | | | Coffee Fellowship is held once a month (except in July and August). Join us for this special time together on the third Sunday of each month. All are invited to gather in Fellowship Hall at 10 a.m. on October 17, 2010, as we resume our monthly Coffee Fellowship routine after the summer hiatus. (Because of the church picnic, Coffee Fellowship time will not be held in September.) | | Spirit on Tap | | | "Spirit on Tap" is a program to encourage theological discussion, explore alternative viewpoints, and stimulate dialogue around issues of faith and spirituality. Sponsored by area United Church of Christ congregations, Spirit on Tap gatherings are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month from September through May at the Reading Crowne Plaza (formerly the Sheraton) at 7 p.m. A similar program called "Theology with a Twist" is offered at the Kutztown Tavern on the second Tuesday of the month, also from September through May. | | Choir Singers | | | All of our St. Andrew's Church family are invited to participate in our adult choir. Regular rehearsals are held from September to June on Sundays from just after 12 noon to 1 p.m. in the choir room. The choir provides musical leadership for the principal worship service each Sunday from September to June, as well as music for special worship services from time to time. You, too, are invited to join in sharing the joy of making music, enhancing your skills as a singer, and providing valuable leadership in the service of worship. Please join us when rehearsals resume on September 26th, following our summer hiatus.
| | Food Pantry Sunday | | | The first Sunday of every month is Food Pantry Sunday. On that day our chest is placed in the church narthex to receive worshipers' gifts of non-perishable food items for our local food pantry. Foodstuffs are forwarded to St. Paul's Lutheran Church pantry in our own East Reading neighborhood, while monetary gifts are divided between the Glenside Blessings Food Pantry, operated by Christ Lutheran Church in partnership with our own U.C.C. Council for United Church Ministry in Reading, and St. Paul's Lutheran Church pantry. | | Living Room Group - Narcotics Anonymous | | | The Living Room Group of Narcotics Anonymous has been meeting on Wednesday evenings in St. Andrew's Church's social hall for more than twenty-five years. Meetings begin at 7 p.m. each Wednesday; enter the building via the Miller Street entrance (side entrance). | | Redner's Save-A-Tape Program | | | St. Andrew's Church continues to participate in Redner's Markets' Save-A-Tape program, which enables us to receive a 1% rebate contribution from all eligible customer receipts we collect for submission. To participate, you must stop at the Customer Service desk or store office and obtain a Save-A-Tape Card (at no cost, and there are no forms to fill out); then present the card to the Redner's cashier whenever you check out, save your register tape, and place it in the box in the church office. We received $462 from Redner's Markets in 2009. |

The congregation of St. Andrew’s UCC has been worshipping and serving in our community since 1891. The church is located in the residential neighborhood of East Reading. The hospitality is warm and the people are friendly. We gather for worship every Sunday at 8:30 and 10:30 am. (The weekly calendar at left will note special summer worship times from July 1 through Labor Day.) St. Andrew’s Church offers many opportunities for volunteering and service to others. So, come be challenged and refreshed, and find a place where YOU can make a difference in the world. You'll be glad that you did! |
