At Old First Reformed, we take seriously our call to “love our neighbor as ourselves.” We have learned at Old First that when we serve others we gain much more than we give.
Wellspring Ministries mission is:
- lifting up people in need
- sharing our resources
- creating area connections
- transforming lives
Wellspring programs include:
» The Food and Clothing Cupboard—Each Saturday morning at 9:30 am Old First volunteers provide food, clothing and toiletries to approximately 40 individuals in our Philadelphia community. The cupboard functions as a “free store,” offering as much dignity and choice as possible given the availability of donations from week to week. Wellspring always accepts donations for the Cupboard, especially men's clothing and ready-to-eat non-perishable foods (pop-top cans are best).
» Winter Homeless Shelter—From November through April Old First hosts twenty homeless men each night in partnership with the Bethesda Project. Guests receive a hot evening meal, a place to sleep and breakfast.
» Alcoholics Anonymous—Every morning, year round, a group gather at Old First to share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.
» Day Camp for Urban Children (above)—Old First’s "I Read Every Day" summer camp provides safe, fun and educational activities for disadvantaged kids ages five to 11.
» Urban Work Camps—Youth groups from visiting churches and other organizations who come for week-long or weekend experiences in the heart of the City of Philadelphia. This is the opportunity to learn the joy and rewards of hands-on work in agencies that are making a difference in the City of Philadelphia. Work camp provide service that includes helping at a homeless shelter, soup kitchen, sober living recovery program, HIV/AIDS outreach, "I Read Every Day" summer camp, and food assistance. To register for an urban work camp, fill out the registration form.
